Thank you for visiting Alice Ink!

I’m Alice Ratterree, illustrator for young audiences based in Greenville, South Carolina.  I began my career in music, as a classically trained singer working in operatic, concert and oratorio venues.

So what does that have to do with children’s book illustration?

I love a good story. A story that moves us towards a common perspective. Whether that is through music or words or a picture, my passion is to bring a story to life for any audience, particularly children (which really means all of us, right?) I love directing emotion, creating costumes, dreaming and building a world….and the knowledge that the possibilities are endless.

I have two vibrant children who keep me connected to my inner child. When I’ve sufficiently gathered wisdom from them, I can be usually be found with watercolors, pencil and paper, or with my tablet in front of Photoshop, and of course always have chocolate always within reach.

Please feel free to contact me and say hello!

I so admire your work, especially your award winning entry for SCBWI.
I have written three children`s books published by Legacy Publications in Greensboro NC
I live in Charleston and am currently searching for an illustrator for my new book. It`s a Charleston Christmas story. Since Legacy is a small publishing com. , I can have an input in the illustrator selection.
You sound like a very busy lady , but I would love to send you a copy of the manuscript to see if you`d be interested. The royalties at Legacy are slim, so I would consider paying for the illustrations up front.
Congratulations on your award. I think your illustration should have received first place!
Look forward to hearing from you.

I love your work – especially the Book Balloon. Really magical. I love how it is currently being featured on Main Street in downtown Greenville, SC, which is also magical. Thanks for sharing with everyone. I just did not realize you lived in Greenville.
